Model Driven Analysis of Object Relatedness in Medieval Image Collections
Recent digitization projects have produced large collections of medieval images. Revealing the structure that is inherent to a collection of images, i.e., the artistic variations of all instances of an object category such as medieval crowns, is a very difficult task. Therefore, we present an approach for discovering the structure inherent to a large image collection and for effectively summarizing the characteristic object relationships in a single visualization. Object relationships prove to be a valuable input to researchers in the humanities for numerous tasks such as identifying authorship of an art manuscript based on principles of artistic design and understanding the transition of art from one school of design to another.
